The Regional Nature Reserve of the Isonzo River Mouth
The Regional Nature Reserve of the Isonzo River Mouth is located in the eastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, along the final stretch of the Isonzo River. The protected area includes the municipalities of Staranzano, San Canzian d’Isonzo, Fiumicello, and Grado, and covers a total surface area of 2,338 hectares, of which 1,154 hectares are marine areas.
Established in 1996, the Reserve largely overlaps with the SAC/SPA “Isonzo River Mouth – Isola della Cona” (IT3330005), which is part of the European Natura 2000 network. The symbol of the Reserve is the Eurasian Curlew.
